This class is a one and half hour review course that will update dentists on trends in narcotic abuse and engender awareness to help you in your practice. Reference statistics are provided from research done by Dr. Brown on the faculty of Pharmacy at FAMU and one of the lecturers at the Aristotle Institute of the Triad in High Point, North Carolina. The lecture is tailored from a full-time private practice dentist's point of view and one who uses this information daily. Dentists are called upon to condense more information into the limited time for procedures with the standard of care issues in everyday practice. Dentists are responsible for treatment planning, answering patients' concerns, dealing with the dental team, scheduling, informed consent, and staying profitable. The opioid crisis has precipitated more legislated responsibilities for the dentist, and this lecture will attempt to help them understand and simplify their approach to managing post-operative dental discomfort by providing one of many possible solutions for dealing with the opioid crisis.
